Oily skin issues
When you’ve got oily skin, it can be a challenge to find the right foundation. A good foundation should provide an almost flawless skin appearance that holds until you decide to remove it. However, no matter which foundation you use, none will stay on all day. This is even more the case for women with an oily skin type. Below you can find information on what is causing the problem and what you can do to prevent and conceal it.
The increased production of oil, or sebum as it is medically called, produced by excessive sebaceous gland activity will drain out the foundation at a much faster rate than it will for people who have a regular or dry skin type. The oil will also interact with the foundation and cause it to oxidize, which in turn discolors the foundation to a yellow/orange substance. On top of this, oily skin often results in an unappealing, shiny look, particularly in the T-zone (chin, nose and forehead).
* Follow a good skincare regime and cleanse the facial skin twice a day, once before you apply your makeup and once before you go to bed.
*Use a suitable foundation. There are several foundations on the market specifically designed for oily skin types. They come in both powder and liquid form. Powder has the ability to absorb oil, which gives it a little advantage over liquid, but to find out which one works best for you, you will have to try them out.

Daily care of oily skin needs to maintain the right balance between removing dirt and oil/sebum that can clog the pores and potentially cause breakouts and not cleaning the skin in such a manner and with such frequency that it becomes too dry and stripped from all oil, which can cause damage and further problems. Healthy skin needs a certain percentage of oil. If you remove too much, the layer of protection that the oil provides will be lost. Never wash your face too vigorously or too often; we recommend two to three times a day with an oil free face wash.

Even indoors as ultraviolet UVA can pass through glass windows. Using sun protection will not only reduce your chances of developing skin cancer but it will also slow down aging of the skin and the development of wrinkles and age spots. Use an oil-free sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. If you are going sunbathing or plan to do other summer/outdoor activities, use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Causes of sebaceous gland activity
1. Genetics. Excessive sebum production issues are often found and passed on in families with large sebaceous glands. 2. Hormones. Hormonal changes throughout life, like puberty, pregnancy and menopause can increase or decrease sebaceous gland activity. 3. Seasonal changes. When humidity and heat rise the sebaceous glands will produce more sebum/oil. When the temperature goes down, so will the production of oil. 4. Stress. Stress causes the body to produce androgen hormones which leads to increased sebaceous gland activity. 5. Medication. Medications that influence hormonal balance like birth control pills can increase oil production. Medications that causes dehydration can also lead to increased oil production since the glands will try to compensate for the lack of it.
The increased production of sebum can also be present in the scalp where it can cause oily hair, it can potentially even become the cause of hair loss due to hair follicles getting clogged with embedded sebum.
